***Parking can be found on Highland Boulevard just north of the start. The Departure Bay Motel is 400m south of the start, and at the 366km point of the ride***
The route first goes across the spine of the Island to Port Renfrew. This is a very scenic ride, but services are limited. The recommended hotel is the Departure Bay Motel, 400m from the start, and on the route at 366km.
Berkey's Corner, km 61 has a conveninence store, grocery store, Tim Hortons. These are the last services before Lake Cowichan km 87 where you have a control. It is your choice of any business. You first pass 2 gas stations, a grocery store with a small cafe, then a coffee shop at the roundabout. Across the bridge are another coffee shop, a Subway, and A&W.
Port Renfrew has a few options. You will ride past the grocery store (not too much for you there, opens at 11am), Tomi's (open until 3pm), Coastal Kitchen, open until 2pm and there is a fish and chip truck on site, the Renfrew Pub, opens at noon. The gas station in Renfrew is just towards Victoria (about 400m) from the turn back onto Deering Rd, and has limited snacks.
Once back in Lake Cowichan, you can stop, or continue onto Marble Bay, as you'll soon be back in Lake Cowichan. Consider dinner at Tim Hortons km 230. It is a short ride back to Berkey's Corner where Roundabout Pizza (by the slice) should also be open. The route from here to Mill Bay doesn't pass many services, but the control in Mill Bay at Tim Hortons (11 pm close) beside a MacDonalds, and a 24hr Shell Gas across the street. From here back to Duncan there are no services until the 24hr 7Eleven at km 306. On the highway you will pass a 24hr Tim Hortons, but they may not have inside service when you go by. In Ladysmith, km 335, you have a 24hr 7Eleven and a 24hr Shell Gas.
The control in Nanaimo is at a 24hr 7Eleven, and just before you get back to the start, you'll pass a 24hr Canco Gas (just right at the highway). This also puts you at the Departure Bay Motel for a sleep.
Day 2 takes you past services every 25km, unless you ride through the night. There are 24hr gas stations in Parksville, Qualicum Beach, and Courtenay.
