- Conditions: First 200 km were ideal, 12C to 25C, NO wind. Monashee Pass had heavy wind from all directions (est. gusts 60+ kmh) with blowing sand and lots of debris. Temp dropped to +11. Heavy rain from Monashee Summit to Cherryville. Headwinds around Vernon, then calm to Salmon Arm. Sunday was perfect with variable moderate wind, mix of sun and cloud. Strong tailwind from Sicamous to Revelstoke.
Results
A scenic ride over the Monashee pPass from the easy side. Overnight in Vernon at about 315 Km or Salmon Arm at about 380km.
The Shelter Bay Ferry runs every hour, on the hour. It is 50 somewhat hill km from the start. You have the choice to start at 05:00 or 05:30. Plan according to your ETA at the ferry to minimize wasted time, as no extra time is allowed for them. Assuming you could just ride right on at arrival, you will lose about 1/2 hour at the first one, and 15 minutes at the second one. Please indicate your chosen start time when you register. Last year I started at 5:30 and it worked well for me.
There is unfortunately quite a bit of highway near the end. Highway 97A has new pavement, but has a short (about 1 km) section with virtually no shoulder. Highway 1 from Sicamous to Revelstoke has a mostly good shoulder, but a few very narrow bridges. Be careful, be visible.
