The final pieces of Canyon Des Lacs Clinton are coming together.
Here are some notes so far:
* Riders may choose their own start time. The choices are, 3:00, 4:00, 5:00, or 6:00 am. You will be sent the appropiate control card with the Good to Go letter.
* Please register before 3 pm on Friday, May 15th. Your organiser will be having a strategic nap after this time deadline. He will be up at midnight or 1 am so he can push off from the start at 3 am. Don't wait until the last minute to register.
* This ride is entirely self-supported and there are stretches with no services so plan and prepare accordingly. Eg, Lillooet to Clinton is about 120 KM. Sunday: If you push off from Lillooet at 6 am or earlier the Fountain Valley Trading Post Store will not be open yet.
* Boy Scouts Motto: "Always be prepared!" Hot weather, cold weather, wet or dry.
* There may be a water pump at Marble Cayon Park, shown on map, please be careful and make sure it is safe to drink before filling your bottles, othewise there is nothing until Clinton so make sure you leave Lillooet with a full load just in case.
* Wear high vis clothing, refelective ankle bands, at least two sets of lights. Ride defensively.
* Top up supplies at every opportunity. Have more than you need in case the next place you plan to stop is closed.
* The road conditions will get a final check over but expect that at least once there will likely be a road constuction crew or something going on somewhere.
* Wait until at least Thursday to print your route sheet and control card in case there is any last minute changes.
* Cougars have been seen in the Cultus Lake area. Recommend carying an appropriate whistle to scare them off if you should encounter them.
* Safety: Watch out for RV vehicles. They only require a class 5 drivers license, and many of them are not the most competent drivers.
* Contact Colin Fingler, phone number on control card, if you DNF.
* WATCH THIS SPACE FOR MORE DETAILS.
* WATCH FOR FINAL UPDATE OF MAP AND ROUTE SHEET BEFORE PRINTING OR DOWNLOADING.
