The New Years Populaire starts from the Tim Hortons accross from Reynold's Highschool at 10 am on January 1st. The 50 km loop takes place on the roads and trails of greater Victoria. Start the new year with a little vitamin D and cycling fun!
The route is mainly on quieter roads. There are a few gravel sections on the Interurban Rail Trail which parallels West Saanich Rd and on Lochside Trail from Dooley Road until Matticks Farm.
The pre-ride was completed on December 28th. The roads were in great December shape. The trails were in good shape as well. Be prepared for a few puddles and a little pot hole avoidance. Eastbound Wallace Drive between West Saanich Road and Stelly's Cross Road is currently open. This is the reason for the clockwise direction of the route this year. This section is in need of paving, but there is no westbound traffic to contend with as it is still closed.
The entry fee is the price of your membership online. If you pay for 2024 now, it carries through to the end of 2025. Those who have current 2024 membership can also still register because their membership expires at midnight on January 1st. Link to join the club: https://www.randonneurs.bc.ca/registration.html.
Once you have paid for your membership, you may register for the event and not be asked for any more money! Do that here: https://database.randonneurs.bc.ca/event/5495.
If you have any questions, email me from the link on the event page. I look forward to seeing you this coming Wednesday!
