Tuesday Sept 23 update:
Susan and I drove the gravel portion of the route. They are currently gravelling and grading the north end of Trinity Valley. It should be well packed and in good shape by Saturday. They were not (yet?) working on the south end, and there were a few ugly sections. Hopefully this will improve. I will be riding on 32mm tires. There is lots of gravel on a short section ofthe shoulder of Hwy 97B on the first climb. It won't be a problem. More concerning- it looks like a gravel truck lost its load near the bottom of the fast descent on Hwy 97 between Old Kamloops Rd. and St. Annes Rd. just before Okeefe Ranch. Easy to miss if there is no traffic and you can take the lane. Be careful.
I am really excited about this route! It is beautiful!
Mostly rural roads. 28.4 km of well maintained gravel over Trinity Valley, plus another 1 km on Brookfield Rd. I rode the route on June 29. My gps registered around 1900m elevation gain. The gravel was in great shape, with no loose gravel, and the few potholes and wasboard was easy to miss. No guarantees for ride day, unfortunately.
There is a good store at Ashton Creek at 40 km. The next services are at 96 km at Lumby- 2 gas stations, Tim Hortons, a grocery and a few small cafes. Lots of services after that.
There is some rough pavement on the fast descent on Hadow Rd. just after it narrows, and some on the Trinity Valley descent. There is a fun descent on Mcinnes Rd. that is smooth with nice flowing corners- unfortunately over too soon.
Polson Park- If it is wet, be very careful on the boardwalk!!, There was construction happening in the park with well marked detours. Do whatever you need to to get through the park and turn left on 25th Ave.
