Remembrance Ride 2021

Lest We Forget

On this important day please take the time to honour sacrifices our Veterans have made.

This route intentionality keeps the altitude low and coastal, often it is freezing inland or at elevation this time of year.

Please note, preregistration for this event, riders will need to print their own Control Card and Route Sheet. Bring a pen as there will be only information controls.

Enjoy one staffed stop at 101 km, the usual refreshments will be available. Pandemic protocol may affect our routine.

The weather was quite wet when I did the pre-ride, but the absence of long descents kept things comfortable.

Sidaway Road (10k & 185k) has some dangerous cracks in the pavement. The bike path on Westminster Hwy (20k & 180K) has sections that are being repaved, bicycle detour signs are in place. The Alex Fraser Bridge randomly has the bicycle lanes closed. But one side will always be open, a detour here is acceptable. Watch your speed off the south end of this bridge, the blind corner was slippery with wet leaves.

There is a convenience store at 71km, just before the turn at English Bluff Rd and 1st Ave. Also a Husky Station at 158km in the Tilbury area. Good luck and ride safe. CP

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

    Loved and were loved,

    and now we lie,

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

        In Flanders fields.
