Pre-ride notes: Great day, great route. Lots of weather, rain, wind, sun, great sunset.

If you know the roads, bike routes and paths you will have a distinct advantage. We went off course multiple times and we know most of the route!

1) The bike route on Waterfront Road that goes under the convention centre onto the seawall wasn't obvious and your GPS unit won't beep. At the most westerly point on the road, continue straight, do not bear left and up a little incline.

2) If you have a headache the 17 km of gravel around Mud Bay might seem a bit tedious by the end. There was construction in the last km today with a lot of mud but it was passable. Apparently tomorrow it will be open.

3) Winston has three sections of single lane traffic but there is lots of time to get through on the bike. You may want to let vehicles go ahead.

4) There was a sign saying the CVG from Gilmore to Boundary will be closed October 5. The alternate route is to continue north to Lougheed and make a left turn to get back to Boundary and 4th.

5) Leaves are starting to fall off the trees and can be slippery when wet, so beware!

6) This is a birder's dream route, bonus points for a bird count!
